Pick Google Drive if

  • Your team already works in Google Workspace and co-edits Docs, Sheets and Slides.
  • You store large files of any type, up to 5 TB each, and sync them to desktops.
  • You want shared drives, link sharing and, on Business Standard and up, access that expires.

Pick artifact.guru if

  • Your AI made an HTML page, React app or zipped site and people should use it live.
  • You invite people by email and want to see who opened it, for any file type.
  • Agents should publish straight from Claude, Codex or Gemini CLI, approved once.

Where Google Drive is good

  • Docs, Sheets and Slides let many people edit, comment and suggest at once, and each Google file keeps its own version history.
  • Sharing is granular: viewer, commenter or editor, up to 600 people per file, link sharing, download blocking and expiring access on Business Standard and up.
  • Since June 2026, Workspace users can share Gemini chats, canvases and generated media with the same sharing controls they use for Docs.

Where artifact.guru is different

  • HTML pages, React components and zipped sites run as real pages at their own link, sandboxed on a separate address with no access to the viewer’s account.
  • Email links show each person who opened, when and how often, and who hasn’t, for every format. Public and code links show counts, sources and devices.
  • Agents publish over MCP from Claude, Codex, Gemini CLI and Grok after one approval in the browser, with no API keys.
  • Every publish is a new version at the same link, with rollback, and paid plans put public and code links on your own subdomain.

Moving over from Google Drive

  1. 1Download the HTML file, deck or built site folder from Drive and drag it into artifact.guru. A folder becomes one artifact.
  2. 2Or ask Claude, Codex or Gemini CLI to publish it over MCP after you approve artifact.guru once.
  3. 3Invite people by email, then swap the Drive link in your messages for the artifact link.

Questions about Google Drive and artifact.guru

Can Google Drive host the HTML page my AI made?

Not as a website. Google ended web hosting in Drive on August 31, 2016. artifact.guru runs HTML, React components and zipped sites as real pages at a link you control.

Can I see who viewed my file in Drive?

For Google Docs, Sheets and Slides, the Activity dashboard lets editors in your domain see who viewed and when, on Business Standard and up. On artifact.guru, email links show who opened any artifact, when, how often and who hasn’t.

Do people need a Google account to open a shared file?

Not for files shared with anyone who has the link. For named sharing, people without one can join as PIN-verified visitors for 7 days at a time, if your admin allows it. artifact.guru email links ask each person to sign in with the invited address; public links open for anyone.

Should we stop using Drive?

No. Drive is better for storing files and co-editing Google Docs, with comments right in the text. Use artifact.guru for the AI-made pages, decks and prototypes you want people to open as pages, with a record of who opened them.
